The big companies of Hollywood have mostly bowed out of Comic-Con this year, but the other categories continue to reign strong. One of these is Funko with its Pop! figures that, yet again, took over a portion of the convention floor with an incredibly large supply of collectibles for attendees to sink their wallets into.
It was a combination of Funko’s massive section of booths and the many collectors/resellers that set up camp with their tables and booths looking to sell and trade. You could easily say that there was more Pop! figures at the show then there were any other categories of toy collectibles.
Like previous years, Funko has many Comic-Con exclusive figures for collectors to get their hands on. Some of which can be found online via spots like Game Stop. While others are only available at the convention and nowhere else until attendees begin to resell or trade them outside of the show.
It’s amazing how popular these little figures quickly became. And they continue to trend each year, with even the most uncommon collectors finding a handful in their homes due to the endless number of categories (of figures) spanning everything from superheroes to rock stars (and so much more).
One of my colleagues has a father who has little to no interest in collecting toys and figures, yet has around a dozen of these (and growing). All since he’s found his favorite classic rock heroes. A collection that started with only a few and the response that “No, I’m not collecting these,” just before he quickly started growing it into a collection that continues to expand as he comes across new artists/musicians on the shelves.
The company has really found a successful platform that is able to reach out to so many consumers in so many ways. Leading to an empire of profitable figures that clearly doesn’t cost much to produce. Yet again, another brilliant success story.
