The new trailer for the upcoming (next year) Shazam movie was debuted at Comic-Con 2018, finally giving us a peek of what to expect.
Although it is nice to see some of these heroes finally making it to the big screen, some of us are wondering who the heck DC hired for their costume design. The movie itself looks like it might be a lot of fun, but DC looks to fall short once again on budget.
Where Marvel seeks to add as much realism as possible to their costumes, this doesn’t appear to be much of a concern for DC. Let’s look at last year’s Justice League movie for example. Cyborg’s costume was dreadfully obvious that it was mostly CG, giving the feel of a low budget B-movie you typically find on the SyFy channel. It’s as though they didn’t have time to sit down with it and try to make it in any way believable. Look at Superman’s terrible CG job at hiding the actor’s mustache he currently had and was unable to get rid of due to a contract with another film he was staring in.
Now, we have Shazam!, who looks like a super fan who put together his own costume for his local comic convention. It fits well to the actor’s body, but the detail looks homemade in many ways. Kind of feels like they hired someone from the original Power Rangers Tv series to pull it off.
Of course, despite the complaints we have going on here, we do have high hopes. It’s about time some of these heroes made a noticeable appearance on the big screen. I personally grew up listening to the smaller records, each with a different tale of some of these heroes, including Shazam (as well as a number of animations too of course). Because of this, there is a bit of nostalgia here just waiting to be fed.
However, if they fail at this one, it will only feed a number of funny skits like this one. For now, take a look at the trailer below and make your own opinion. Feel free to share below in the comments!
