Android 14 (coming later this year) will be picking up support for Sony’s new DualSense Edge controller when it releases. It will come with the required drivers to make it function with the OS since Sony’s controllers require a little extra effort compared to standard Bluetooth options.
The mobile OS has already supported Sony’s regular DualSense controllers since 2021 when Android 12 launched, but the Edge controller operates under a different driver. This requires some additions to be made along with a new driver added to the OS in order for it to function.
The DualSense Edge controller is Sony’s response to Microsoft’s Elite controller, only for the PlayStation 5. Offering various levels of customization for serious gamers, including swappable thumbsticks and mappable rear buttons.
Currently running for $199, it isn’t exactly the ideal controller for use with a mobile device, but if you are already using one with your PlayStation 5, you might be looking to get the most use out of it. If not, you can use any Series S/X generation Xbox controller natively with Android. Or if you prefer to stick with a mostly PS-like design, then the 8BitDo Pro 2 makes for a good controller for Android devices.
Again though, Android 14 won’t be released until later in the year. Currently, it is slotted to launch sometime in Q3 of this year (likely August or September). So you won’t be able to make use of the DualSense Edge controller with Android just yet (if you are looking forward to it). You’ll also have to have a device that is expected to receive the update to the new OS.
