One thing humans will never pass up on is the ability to take advantage of others. This is exactly what is happening after word started getting around that a specific video game was allowing some users to jailbreak their PlayStation 5 console.
At the end of December (2025), word started getting around that the code within the game could trigger a jailbreak that would allow users to play copied (illegal) games. Of course, news like that usually creates a frenzy as users all over rush to give things a try for themselves.
We won’t mention how this works, as pirating games is (again) illegal, but when someone finds an easy way to pull it off, it usually creates a mad rush. This is because it is usually a bit more complex to do something like this. It usually requires physical mods (some including soldering chips into your console) or special firmware tricks. Not everyone has the patience or knowledge to pull those off. But give them an easy method like the old PS2 disc-swap tricks, and suddenly everyone is interested.
Since there is something special about the PS4 remake of Star Wars Racer Revenge (physical disc copy) with this jailbreak trick, people have been rushing to places like eBay to sell theirs. Prices for this game rose from $15-$25 to around $150-$300, as users take advantage of the situation to make some cash.
So, unless you already have this in your collection, it will cost you a small fortune to find one if you were hoping to play it (or if you were hoping to try the jailbreak yourself). At least, until Sony patches this somehow and you update your console without realizing it, or you happen to come across a copy from a lock reseller like Gamestop that hasn’t been keeping up with current news. Or, if you were simply looking to play the game, you can always get your hands on the digital version via the PlayStation store.
