Microsoft has shown that it hasn’t pulled out of the console business with an announcement of three new Xbox consoles that will be dropping later this year during the holidays. One of which being a console that may worry some gamers who prefer to collect hard copies of the games they buy.
It is the new All-Digital Xbox Series X, which is similar to the Series S, but with the guts of the X. So in ways, it can be seen as an Xbox Series S Pro. But since it is flagged as the X, it could predict where the company plans to go in the future as it continues to push for discless consoles. A move that has gamers conflicted since you don’t actually “own” the digital content you download and in most cases such content simply vanishes when someone passes, versus allowing someone to inherit your collection.
The new console will feature an MSRP of $449.99 and will come in the Robot White color. Along with a new 1TB Xbox Series S in the same color (which will retail for $349.99).
The third console announced is a 2TB “Special Edition” of the Xbox Series X, featuring a new star-speckled Galaxy Black theme. Which will be the normal Xbox Series X with a new color and twice the capacity inside. It will feature an MSRP of $599.99.
So no “new” consoles just yet, which is fine since the Series X still has a lot of headroom when it comes to performance in many of the games we play. It seems games like Starfield are only just now trying to push things to the limit, and even then, only with their latest updates and patches meant to improve graphical and frame performance. The Xbox Series X still has plenty of life available to it to keep things fresh with new games coming out.
