Let’s admit it. There is no surprise here when we point out that a Ready Player Two movie is coming to the big screen to serve as a sequel to the smash hit, Ready Player One. The first movie did so well in the theaters (and did so well with the readers of the book), there is no way they are going to lose out on the chance of a little more success.
After a very patient wait, the second book finally launched last month, giving fans the follow-up to the story they have been yearning for. Given, it hasn’t been getting all the praise that was expected since it wasn’t really what everyone was expecting.
We have heard everything from “Wade just isn’t the same Wade anymore”, and “something doesn’t feel right”, or “I didn’t like the new direction it took”. However, many of us are still reading the story ourselves, with a few that have finished a week from release. We won’t spoil anything (don’t worry), but so far, the average vote here remains in the positive (my vote being one of those). Sure, things take a little bit of a different spin this round, but it is still a fascinating read that keeps you glued to it. That was one of the things that made the first book so amazing.
Regardless of how the population feels about the book, the movie will happen and is currently in the early stages of development as we speak. This has been confirmed by the author (Ernest Cline) and should prove just as worthy of a movie when you consider all of the action and suspense that the book feeds you from start to finish.
Not much is known at this point, but we’re sure that Steven Spielberg will take the thrown on this one again. It will have a lot riding on it, so they will need his expert directing skills to help successfully deliver the film with (it won’t be a cheap movie to make). That being said, regardless of the direction the story takes, it should become a successful run one way or another if everything translates to the screen properly.
So rejoice, and let your heart be calm, as there will be more visuals to absorb. Once again, filled with pop culture nostalgia. For now, since it will likely be a few years before the movie hits theaters, you can sink your teeth into the book and form your own opinions. For those who have already read the book, feel free to share what thoughts you may have in the comments below.
