Sony is running into a little trouble today as the company has been experiencing outages within its PlayStation Network (PSN). This service is needed to connect gamers to online games and content services, and at times and this can cause disruptions when parts of it go down.
Apparently, somewhere around 1:30 PM PST, these services started experiencing issues in various regions causing users to experience various error messages when they try to log in. Preventing some users from being able to access their games since licenses are unable to be validated.
This can also affect access to other digital services or content and can prevent users from purchasing and downloading new content via PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 consoles.
You understand that the disks themselves hold barely any content and still require PSN and Live to function on most cases even if its not an always online game. Network down normally means not playing anything.

At this time, Sony hasn’t publically come out with any causes or an expected window of time that these troubles may be resolved. So there is no telling how long these issues can last. But you can be assured Sony is likely working hard to put out any related fires.
