A drone was sent up to capture the situation in Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the coronavirus that has the world shaken up. The footage was apparently taken by ChinaFile where it has since been posted by CTV News (Canada), showing various sections of the city during the day and what it looks like during the city’s massive quarantine.
Wuhan has been under quarantine since late January where Chinese authorities and emergency workers have been working night and day trying to find a way of putting a stop to it and develope some sort of a vaccine or other solution to treat infected patients with.
The video shows many of the streets vacant, a city mostly still, with an eerie smog blanketing everything. The whole thing looks like something taken out of a post-apocalyptic zombie movie.
Thankfully, most of the emptiness is due to citizens being told to stay indoors if possible to help limit any exposure to the outbreak. Not to interact with any strangers, and to keep their cars off the streets (likely to keep things open to emergency workers). This includes public transport, taxis, and airport, which have all been shut down. Businesses have shut their doors so that employees have one less reason to leave their homes and put themselves at risk.
Despite the quarantine and warnings issues, there are those who are still risking travel as they help each other in this time of need, let it be going on supply runs or driving sick neighbors to a nearby hospital–although authorities have recently been making this easier by exercising house-to-house searches for those infected, to do just that.
Regardless, seeing footage of an entire city nearly shut down has a special way of sending a chill up your back. So make sure to send positive thoughts their way as they battle through their war on the virus and hopefully find a quick resolution so that they can return to their normal day-to-day lives.
In the meantime, try to be smart about the other areas of the world that haven’t seen any infected or have only had a few cases. One potential illness under monitor doesn’t mean the entire city should start raiding the supply stores for masks and equipment. Don’t go rushing off to the nearest hospital because you have a common cold thinking the worst of things. Know the proper symptoms and how to look out for them. Keep your hands washed, avoid close contact with people who are sick, just like any other normal day.
