Amazon is looking to really stick it to the competition when it comes to offering a platform that is hard to beat. It sounds like it hasn’t exactly risen up the ranks as well as some of the other companies and it is looking to change this.
Now, the company appears to be looking to take on the likes of Pandora and Spotify (to name a few), by opening its huge catalogue of music to Amazon Prime subscribers. This means subscribers won’t have limited access to certain tracks, but instead, access to almost everything that Amazon has. Mostly without the need of having to have an additional Amazon Music subscription (mostly, but we will get to that).
Users will be able to call upon artists and albums, as well as other various playlists and podcasts. Similar to how some of these other options work. This isn’t exactly new for Amazon, but it is for being fully included with the Amazon Prime subscription. So you can listen to everything Justin Timberlake or request a specific album from Disturbed.
The only catch is you can’t request specific tracks and you will be limited to standard quality (which is still pretty good). For audio enhancements like hi-res or spatial, you will have to upgrade to Amazon Music Unlimited. So by default, you will have a Pandora or Spotify-like experience with any Amazon Prime account. However, for a little extra, the experience will be closer to Tidal (or some of the hi-res premium accounts some of the other services offer).
It’s actually a pretty smart idea that will likely steal a lot of attention away from some of these other options. It doesn’t exactly mean that they will instantly take the industry over, but it does mean that they will be taken a bit more seriously. So if you have an Amazon Prime account, go check out Amazon Music to see what you have access to.
