Amazon is ruffling feathers again, this time by finding another service to raise the price on (or this time, adding an additional price to). The Amazon Fresh program has allowed customers to be able to shop for various groceries that can be delivered to their homes within hours. Amazon Prime members have been able to take advantage of this service as part of their Prime membership. One of many perks the company offers its customers.
However, the company has decided that changes were required in order to “keep prices low” within their grocery products (both on and offline). These changes included added delivery fees for Prime members. A move that will cost consumers in addition to the yearly fee they already pay for their Prime memberships.
The fees are broken down for orders that fall within $150 or less, raising the bar for those looking to get free delivery. And since many consumers don’t spend $150+ at a time while grocery shopping, this will result in a lot of extra revenue for the company suddenly.
For orders up to $50, there will now be a $9.95 fee added to the bill. Where orders between $50 to $100 will see a $6.95 fee, and orders of $100 to $150 will see a $3.95 fee. You can just imagine how many people this is going to affect.
I’m sure that many will likely halt the service and opt to simply go back to physically hitting the stores in order to get the things they need. However, there will still be those that lean toward convenience and pay these new fees happily (or grudgingly).
It’s another gutsy move made by the company that reshaped shipping expectations all across the internet. Part of the many changes the company has been making in order to cut costs and raise profits. Meanwhile, the Prime membership continues to shrink a little and people are really starting to take notice.
What do you think about these new changes/fees? Is this something you side with or will this affect your own use of the Amazon Fresh services? Feel free to share your own thoughts in the comment section below.
