Disney has been on a roll announcing new leaks and trailers about some of the series and movies you can expect to find on Disney+, their online streaming service, starting next year. In fact, the number of titles announced shows that they are looking to bring in record subscriptions and boost their competitive position, potentially already claiming 2021 a win for them.
The Mandalorian, alone, brought in so many subscriptions from fans looking to experience the new Star Wars series. The series was a complete hit and now Disney has let the world know that it was just a small taste of things to come.
Some of the series you can expect to find (in which cover both the Marvel and the Star Wars universes) include Loki, WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Marvel’s What If…?, Ms. Marvel, Hawkeye, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and more. Then stretching into 2022 and beyond with She-Hulk, Ironheart, Moon Knight, Secret Invasion, Andor (Star Wars), Ahsoka (Star Wars), Rangers Of The New Republic (Star Wars Mandalorian spin-off), and more. With a list like that, there is no way Disney isn’t going to walk away from this as a victor in the streaming services war.
The only catch is that it is going to cost you. Disney has already proven that they are not shy when it comes to raising the cost of what you have to pay to access their content. They made their point clear with the launch of Mulan this year.
They plan on increasing the cost of subscription in March 2021 to help balance their own cost of developing such an expensive endeavor, as well as future increases to continue to push toward profitability.
Thankfully, the streaming service is still below the likes of Netflix and will only be going up by $1/month, moving from $6.99/mo to $7.99/mo in the first move (March). The bundle will be climbing $1 as well (that includes Hulu and ESPN+).
You couldn’t have thought that lower price was going to last for long though, right?
Hopefully, they get the numbers they are hoping for and it won’t continue to climb much so that it will continue to be affordable to the masses to sink their appetites into so much glorious content with. At least, that is when Disney isn’t trying to charge an additional full-price of a 4K Blu-ray disc to have access to a digital movie like Mulan.
