So many things have been happening at Twitter now that Elon Musk has officially taken it over. The Tesla/SpaceX CEO walked into the building this week carrying a bathroom sink for laughs in an effort to allow this event to “sink in” with everyone.
Of course, Musk is having to let it sink in for himself as he has made multiple attempts to get away from the deal before eventually reaching the deadline where he had to take action on the acquisition. Now the Musk is the (proud?) owner of Twitter and has already been making changes. He decided to fire a number of the company’s top executives. Including Parag Agrawal (former CEO), Ned Segal (former CFO), and Vijaya Gadde (former CLO – Chief Legal Officer). An action that could be seen coming as Musk has repeatedly expressed his opinions about the social platform and how it was being managed (thus leading to all of this).

In the end, the billionaire stuck his foot in his mouth while trying to make a point and walked away from it all having to man up to his actions. Now Twitter is among the number of Musk-owned companies, once again taking the social platform private. It is going to be a difficult road ahead, trying to show enough profit to justify the purchase. It may never happen. Or, the clever Musk might just surprise us all yet again.
Meanwhile, his competitors are also letting it sink in while they pull out of the social platform. Companies like GM (Tesla competitor) seem to be stepping to the side to see how everything goes down before making future efforts to advertise on the platform. Afterall, all the money they spend to advertise their companies will be going to a company owned by one of their biggest EV competitors. Making for what possibly could be a conflict of interest.
While at the same time, Twitter is one of the largest platforms to advertise to the public on. Without it, these companies may see a dip in marketing performance. GM will be keeping an eye on things and interacting with Twitter to see where everything is going. To access where the company is headed and how this will effect everyone else.
There is no telling how many other companies are considering the same, but you know GM isn’t alone with these concerns. However, as long as Musk doesn’t try to do anything questionable with the platform, these companies will likely come right back in the near future to continue their marketing efforts.
Also meanwhile, there have been a lot of efforts by random users to take advantage of the situation. Stirring up various forms of click bait, including fake Trump accounts (with tweets like “Thanks Elon, I’m BACK!!”), based on assumption that Musk might allow the ex-president back onto the platform. This is all speculation and who knows what will or will not happen to those who have been banned over the years.
