Late last year, we made an attempt to give the Fetch Rewards app a try. It is an app that allows you to earn points by scanning store receipts both on and offline. These points add up and you can cash them in for things like Amazon gift cards (ie, 10,000 points for a $10 gift card, or 20,000 for a $20 gift card). We originally ran the story back in October.
Since then, we now have a number of colleagues that make use of the app. Why? Because it actually works. There has been a number of cashouts to Amazon (and other) gift cards since we started and points continue to pile in as everyone scans various receipts. Especially after a trip to the grocery store that can potentially add up pretty quickly thanks to bonuses that can earn you extra points when the receipt contains products from certain brands.
The process of how everything works is explained much deeper in our previous story, however. In this one, we wanted to simply circle back to share the success of the app along with what we have learned thus far.
We continue to recommend this one over the other receipt programs due to the number of returns we have seen thus far. It works, it’s that simple. It isn’t perfect though. When you go to cash out the first time, you tend to get a little skeptical since it doesn’t happen instantly. You have to wait for the request to be manually approved on their end it seems. This can actually take a number of days before you get a confirmation that a gift card is on its way.
When you do get the gift card, it doesn’t just give you the gift card code. They give you a special code that you have to enter somewhere which then unlocks the real code that you can then paste or type into Amazon or whatever site you cashed out for. It’s an extra step that feels a little odd, but it does work out in the end. You are then free to use your funds via the site of choice.
We also found that Amazon Business accounts cannot be linked for automated online receipt collections. Only normal Amazon accounts are supported at this time. Thankfully, that doesn’t really eliminate too many people (and they can still scan all of their other receipts).
So far, we have counted two times where it has ever accepted a receipt but missed something. Like a bonus item that should have earned extra points but the system didn’t catch it because the store named the product oddly on the receipt, throwing it off.
So far though, this was all we ran into. Everything else has been working fine and those points continue to add up, which is pretty nice for those looking to make a little extra money on the side. It’s like having a credit card that earns you cash back. Only if you do make use of a card like that, now you are stacking your savings and earning even more.
Want to try it youself? You can download the app (or scan the QR code below) for your Android or iOS device(s). It doesn’t take long to get going. You can also earn additional signup rewards by using the referral code “ME4NNA” during sign up. Happy scanning!
Of course, if we run into anything else worth mentioning, we may come back to add more or re-approach it again in the future. Hopefully, Fetch never dumbs the program down to make it less appealing like some companies tend to do. If it doesn’t, this could live on to dominate the rest.
