Netflix has been trying to break into the gaming market in order to expand its platform with and better compete with companies like Amazon. The company has been working on Netflix Games, which would allow Netflix subscribers to play various games without the need for in-app purchases or other external costs or ads. All you need is a Netflix subscription.
At the moment, access is limited to mobile users and only those behind Android devices (smartphones or tablets). Netflix will be expanding this to iOS users in the coming months, but for now, Apple fans will be on the sidelines waiting for their moment to join in on the fun. Meanwhile, Netflix subscribers can sign into multiple devices to play, each under its own profile (Netflix user profiles) with the limitation of profiles dedicated to kids. For the moment, kids will not have access to games since the company does not currently have any child safety features in place.
The games are touch-interactive, which means you will have to use the touchscreen on your device to control them. There is currently no support for external controllers at this time. There is a strong chance that the company may want to break out into a more immersive experience in the future by adding desktop users, controller access, and bigger games. However, for the moment, touch-interactive mobile games are what you get for now. This seems fair since it doesn’t require any additional subscription costs (for now).
In order to jump in on the fun, you will be looking for an update that will be rolling out to the Netflix app on Android devices, beginning today. It may take a few days or more to roll out to everyone. To speed up the process, you can open the Google Play app store and check for updates manually. This may force the update to pop up.
