It appears that Amazon is having issues with some of its Fire TV products when it comes to a recent update that has gone out. The update specifically focused on the YouTube app and it apparently is having some adverse reactions for some users (but not all).
Reports have been popping up all over via sources like DownDetector and X (Twitter), that the update has prevented some users from accessing the YouTube app altogether. Resulting in the app crashing when they try to open it. Something we haven’t been able to reproduce ourselves in any of the Fire TV products we have on-site, but the sheer number of reports online proves that it is widespread enough to raise attention.
Amazon appears to know of the problem and has been telling users that it is currently working to resolve the issue. So you shouldn’t fear that YouTube support has been dropped from Fire TV products. You simply have to wait until the company releases a new update fixing the problem.
As for how long it is going to take before that update releases, it all depends on how difficult it is to track down why this bug is affecting only a certain number of users. Then applying it to an update that won’t break anything for everyone else.
