Social networks are something everyone has grown used to over the years. Especially thanks to the fact that they are so free to use. However, there are at times options that deviate from this path to form premium services that you have to pay for. Twitter is coming one of these.
The popular social networking service has been working on new ideas on how it can provide a way to charge users for its services. The idea was a new subscription option for its platform that you would pay monthly for. An attempt to raise additional profits beyond advertising (which makes up the majority of Twitter’s income).
It appears that the new option will be called Twitter Blue (with the chance that it may be renamed later if this is just a project code name) and it could cost you $2.99/month if you jump on board. Basically, it will be a premium tier of Twitter that would open new options to users. One of which is the ability to form “collections” that tweets can be organized into.
Another big feature includes the ability to undo a tweet that you just sent out. This works by giving you so many seconds after you have tweeted to change your mind and pull it back before anyone can see it (literally). A feature many notorious users (that we won’t name) could really benefit from.
So far, it sounds like a small list of options to pay for. A bit of a weak list as of now since features like “undo” seem like it should be an option that should exist normally for everyone. So the company will likely seek additional ideas in order to help sell the idea when it comes time for launch. Else Twitter will be hurting to find enough users willing to make the upgrade.
For now, these are just the early leaks of information working its way around the web. Twitter has not officially come out with any feature lists or other public confirmations of anything just yet. So names can change, features can be added, and prices can adjust as well. We will all know more once Twitter is ready to make the big announcement.
