This is a quick review that fell into our off-topic section since, although it does have a built-in air quality sensor, it isn’t exactly smart when it comes to the rest of your smart home (doesn’t connect to anything, nor does it even have an app). However, it was still something we came across that was worth mentioning. That being, the Afloia Air Purifier. A larger purifier capable of working with spaces as large as 1,442 ft².
The very first thing we noticed about this unit was that it “looks” almost identical to the Amrobt model we covered last summer. It is literally identical, outside of the top having an ever-so-slight slant to it where the other is a tad closure to flat, and the logos are different. The pattern running across is identical, shape and size, top and buttons, everything. It very likely came from the same factory but was rebranded to another company (minus the WiFi connectivity support of the other model).
Although it does lack smart home connectivity capabilities, this model covers a much larger area (per its features specs, at least). It does circulate a lot of air at max setting, so it is quite likely this is accurate. In fact, we smoked out one of the theater rooms with a large popcorn machine by overcooking the oil slightly (we did this on purpose since it is known for this to happen). We made sure to turn off the AC/Fan system for the room, close the doors, and then turned this on after we burned the oil long enough. It didn’t take long for it to make a noticeable difference in the room and begin to clear everything away. The room is a bit over 700ft², so that was nice to see.
Many of the other features are similar to the other model we have, which was a big hit with us. Since the design of it is identical (for the most part), it shares the same durability, weight, and really great filter on the inside. A filter that is incredibly easy (like most models) to swap out and also feels incredibly design-wise (the filter).
Options are easy to run across at the top. In fact, you won’t really need the instructions as it is more than self-explainable. You may find yourself looking to the instructions when it comes time to replace the filter. However, this is only for figuring out how to reset the filter clock with the buttons. All of the buttons are touch-sensitive.
We did find that the fan does have a small bit of noise to it. It’s not terrible or anything, but it isn’t as smooth as the other unit either. As though it isn’t perfectly balanced or something. It isn’t a deal-breaker or anything, but it is something to consider if you are an incredibly light sleeper. Most everyone else would sleep right through it with no problem. That being said, it did affect the score slightly.
That difference of smart vs not smart really did get to us though. The other model (Amrobt model) isn’t much more and offers WIFi connectivity to the Smart Life app, allowing you to automate it with everything else in your smart home setup. This one does not offer any WiFi connectivity. This eventually had the most effect on the score for us. In fact, the other model sometimes matches this in price exactly. The only thing that saved it some, is the fact that it is a bit more powerful than the other (1,442 ft² vs 538 ft² of coverage) despite the other model being the same exact size as this one. So nearly 3x the square footage of coverage saves this one.
That being said, the Amrobt model could possibly extend past the square footage in its specs to compete a little more in that area. It’s just a bit hard to tell for sure and we were told that we couldn’t continuously smoke out the one demo room to find out since the environment isn’t designed for that kind of abuse. So I guess we will never know.
Also, it is hard to say how accurate 1,442 ft² really is in the specs. The more we used it, the most we felt it was likely closer to around 700-800 ft² based on performance. Still, a very solid performance, but it does leave us wondering. So although the increase in square footage saves it a little, it isn’t a get-out-of-jail free card from us. We still like the Amrobt model better at this point in time.
