Today on my desk the crew left another TWS product from the folks at HAVIT. The Havit G1W True Wireless Sports Headphones: a truly wireless experience with TWS(True Wireless Stereo), and wireless charging. Let’s take a look, and a listen:
In and Out of the Box
The Havit G1W Sports Headphones are packed into a retail box which has the same lines and graphics as the previously reviewed Havit E5 Sports Speakers. The materials are similarly a smooth rubber with the same bright red/black look as the E5 speakers. Included in the box are the two Havit G1W earpieces, the wireless charging case, a micro USB cable for the Qi charging pad, a multi language User manual, and a multi language instruction manual specifically for the G1W headphones. There are also small, medium, and large silicone ear tips, and similar sized ear wings included. Like many manufacturers the medium ear tips and medium ear wings are pre-installed on the Havit G1W TWS Sports Headphones. The “ear wings” work to help fit and retain the G1W headphones securely in one’s ears. In a separate package the folks at Havit included a Qi wireless charging pad. The earpieces and charging case are rated IPX5 waterproof: The set as tested was black/red. The Havit G1W TWS Sports Headphones are also available in Black/Grey, White/Grey, and White/Red. The IPX5 rating isn’t full waterproof, it means the headphones can be splashed, or can handle low pressure water sprays without problems. The Havit G1W Sports Headphones use contact induction to charge within the case so keep those contacts clean before returning to the case for charging. The case itself sits on the Qi wireless charging pad and indicates charging with a slowly blinking LED logo on the top of the case. The pad indicated charging with a white LED which lights when the case is placed on the pad. When the case is fully charged, the earbuds are similarly fully charged, and the LEDs are dark. Let’s move forward:
How’s it Going?
I found it very easy to pair the Havit G1W TWS Sports Headphones to every platform. Once you remove the earpieces from the charging case, they are ready to pair. Open your settings in whatever device, and look for Havit G1 in the BT menu. It was quick and simple whether I was pairing to an android smartphone or tablet, a Kindle HD Fire, or any iOS iPad, or iPhone. You can also choose to pair only one earpiece of the set: when doing that, you will instead be looking for Havit G1 Mono for the left earpiece, or Havit G1 for the right earpiece. The volume level on the Havit G1W headphones is dependent and controlled by the device used. These Havit in-ear headphones actually only have one on board control: the ubiquitous Multi Function Button(MFB). Using the MFB you can power on or off, Pair/unpair the headphones, Play/pause music or videos, answer, and reject or hang up phone calls. Both of the Havit G1W earpieces have the MFB and either one can operate the functions. The earpieces have LED indicators which light up when first removed from the charging case to indicate TWS pairing. The charging case contains a 720mAh battery, and Havit claims you can get up to 18 hours of use. With a full charge, the charging case has the capacity for 5 headphone charges and can play for approximately 3.5 hours per 1.5 hour charge. When you Havit G1W TWS Sports Headphones are connected to an iOS device, you can access Siri using the MFB, or Google Assistant when paired with an Android device. Let’s take a listen:
Sounds OK
Unlike many in-ear solutions I have listened to and reviewed in the last year, the Havit G1W Sport Headphones will not tear your head off. These in-ear solutions are very comfortable and once I got the proper fit ear tips and ear wings they didn’t fall out of my ears even when jumping up and down or running. As I mentioned earlier: the volume control is dependent on the device being used. Although these Sports Headphones can get loud enough to cause harm over time, they don’t really get “too loud” when paired with my iOS devices, Android devices, or even my Kindle Fire HD devices. I never noticed “painful” volume levels when listening to many genres of music with these Havit G1W headphones. Let’s talk about quality of sound. The first thing I noticed about the Havit G1W is an enhanced Mid range. I did notice the high mids can be a bit harsh at high volume levels. The low-end isn’t mushy, it’s just barely present. These earbuds sounded acceptable with any or all genres of music if one isn’t looking for massive low-end presence. The Stereo imaging was open but it was obviously a single full range driver in each earpiece. The Bluetooth range was actually very impressive with these devices. I could walk from one floor of the testing lab to another without any significant signal loss. When making and accepting phone calls, the Havit G1W TWS Sports Headphones defaults to the right earpiece. Note that both earpieces have microphones and a MFB and are fully functional on their own in mono mode. The phone calls I made and received were clear and easy to understand in the earpieces. The test subjects who I called or spoke with while testing the headphones said that the Havit G1W headphones sounded like “any other speakerphone”. When using the Havit G1W headphones to watch videos on the various platforms, there is a noticeable delay between the video signal and the audio portion. As mentioned many times in the past: this is a common problem with any TWS system, and time, and new codecs will surely surmount this problem in the future.
Final Thoughts:
The Havit G1W True Wireless Sports Headphones are a true wireless stereo experience and have full telephone functionality. The MFB is simple and easy to operate and these headphones connected easily to any device and worked as expected: I could easily utilize Siri or Google Assistant on those platforms with no problems getting the use I desired including searching for information or “play the next song by…”. The Charging box is both convenient and easy to carry, one could easily attach a lanyard or carabiner to one’s backpack or purse. The earpieces magnetically connect to the charging box and the charging box lid is also magnetically sealed. The Havit G1W ability to wirelessly charge the “charging box” is a great convenience for people on the go. You can just set it on the charging pad, and forget it until you need to use it again. The IPX5 setting reduces dust and sweat, and even light rain problems which come with an outdoors sports based device but it won’t be safe for showers or swimming. My complaints have to do with two aspects of the Havit G1W Sports Headphones which I found lacking: Low end is weak and meaningless in most low-end dominant music like House or RnB but the mids and highs are singing. I also am not a big fan of not having real onboard volume control. They don’t seem to get too loud even at full volume but I prefer being able to quickly dial up/down the volume at my ear, or what’s the point of a wireless system? The $99.99 price includes a Qi wireless charging pad. Without it the Havit G1W retails for 89.99 at the Havit website. 8.0 out of 10.
