Lately it seems I’m getting the unusual consumer electronics gear from the team. This week was no different: the folks at HUTbIT have sent along the HUTbIT Body Scale just in time for my new weight loss program. The HUTbIT Body Scale pairs with the FeelFit app on iOS and Android devices which make it so much more than just a scale: Let’s take a look.
Set Up Get Down
First thing you must do is install 4 AAA batteries in the back cover of the HUTbIT Body Scale. They are not included. Although you can use the HUTbIT Body Scale without the FeelFit applications to check your weight, that’s all you can do. However: once you’ve installed the FeelFit app in your device you can sign up and get started on your fitness program. HUTbIT suggests you are barefoot to use the scale. I suggest you are in your underwear or the same workout outfit every time you use the scale, because it’s that sensitive and the device is tracking your weight gains or losses. Do not hold your phone or tablet if you didn’t hold them the first time you step on the scale or you will show weight gains. The HUTbIT Body Scale uses a mild electric current to determine the physical aspects of your weight and body, so anything but barefoot isn’t a choice if you want more than just your weight. Open the FeelFit app, step on the HUTbIT Scale and Voila, the dial starts spinning the numbers start registering and in 20 seconds your weight will be in the app and on the scale. The FeelFit display creates a chart composed of 13 metrics including weight, BMI (body mass index), body fat, fat-free body weight, subcutaneous fat, visceral fat, body water, skeletal muscle, muscle mass, bone mass, protein, BMR and metabolic age. If you are a bit older than I and just a wee bit out of shape, you might be surprised by some of the numbers: My fat-free body weight is my exact “cut weight” when I was younger and had no belly or love handles. Make sure the HUTbIT Body Scale is sitting on a stable hard floor like tile or similar when using it. There are 4 sensors, one in each foot but if it’s not sitting flat, you can get some really weird readings: I was getting messages about unusual fat gain when I realized the unit was not sitting flat on the tiles so make sure it’s not placed on carpet or similar. It just won’t work correctly. Remember when setting up to enter the correct height/gender/age information and that’s it.
Who cares?
Why does the HUTbIT Body Scale collect so much data and what does that do for you? Since the scale can support up to 400 lbs this device can help you with your weight loss program. Or even your weight gain program. The FeelFit app can sync data with Apple Health, Google Fit, Fitbit and other devices to help understand your weight and exercise program and how they connect. You can use the data to create and set goals in the FeelFit applications, track trends in weight gain or loss, and realize how your weight affects your metabolic age. There are really so many pages in the FeelFit free app that there’s no point doing more than mentioning them but let’s be clear: any person wanting to track their athletic or health goals with a reasonably priced device which is very flexible. If you are using the HUTbIT Body Scale for any training there is a check box for “athlete” There are color themes, you can set personal goals, as well as look at the trend charts for any metric you desire. It’s sharp, it’s handy, it connects easily and quickly to any iOS or Android device I’ve tried and you can connect to friends to create shared goals or competitions. It can display in 14 different languages and is super easy to operate, track goals, share trends or help you pay attention to what your body does on certain days like fasting days, or big meal days or when eating certain types of food.
Warnings
The folks at HUTbIT want you to enjoy your new Body Scale and get the most reward for your investment: However, this scale is not meant for children under the age of 18. The Body Scale should not be used to diagnose any medical condition and if worried, always consult your Physician first. Your body composition metrics might not be completely accurate when using the HUTbIT Body Scale immediately after heavy physical exercise so wait until the cool down is complete to step on the scales.
Weight a Minute!
For a very reasonable price the HUTbiT Body Scale is an excellent way to track your daily weight and many other metrics. It would be a perfect device for athletes, moms, dads, or pretty much anyone just trying to understand how eating and exercise affects their body, where, and how. The Body Scale tracks daily weight so try to use it at the same time every day to get better and more meaningful data. The FeelFit app whether used in iOS or Android devices is a perfect companion to the unit: it tracks muscle weight, fat and BMI among many other metrics and allow you to connect with other tracking devices to complete the picture. You can connect to others to share your weight goals and compete and that can really help some people do better with their health goals. I have zero complaints except the AAA batteries in the HUTbIT Body Scale: I’m so used to rechargeable Li iOn batteries being in every device that it just seems odd when I have to buy batteries. If you are looking for a new home or bathroom scale with all the bells and whistles you can imagine, tracking data, trend charts and so much more, the HUTbit Body Scale is a great affordable unit. I give it 9.5 out of ten. Thanks HUTbit! After a week I’m halfway to my weight loss goal of ten pounds and looking forward to reaching it soon.
