Wowsers. Today the staff left a real prize on my desk: Linsoul Audio sent a pair of KZ AS10 earbuds. These lovely and sophisticated looking earbuds contain 5 balanced drivers per side. How do they look? How do they sound? Let’s take a look and a listen.
Classy Chassis
Linsoul Audio supplies hi fidelity portable audio products for sale at their website and at Amazon. Linsoul Audio showcases artistically designed earbuds which range from the teenage home user level to devices sure to please the audiophile, audio professional, or stage musician. The KZ AS10 earbuds are no exception to that rule, and come packaged in a classic black case containing the two very lovely red/black earbuds, the fashionable braided cable, and spare eartips for the earbuds. The earbuds also can be ordered in Cyan. The case contains the instructions for proper assembly and use of your new KZ AS10 earbuds. Left and right matter so follow the instructions! KZ designed the plug in structure using .75mm gold plated connections for best conductivity. My test set included a microphone/MFB so one can answer or reject phone calls, as well as manipulate the tracks on your music apps. I used my Samsung Galaxy phone for the majority of the testing, along with the iHeart Radio app, Amazon Prime Music, Google Play Music, Youtube, as well as other audio/video services. The other devices I used were my usual go to iPads, Amazon Fire, and other Android tablets. Any variations in the listening were caused by the hardware of the device and not the KZ AS10 earbuds. The controls are very simple so Play/Pause, Next or previous track all work well with any and all apps as tested. I was also easily able to access and speak to Google Assistant or SIRI using the MFB to trigger the application. If you just want the earbuds without the microphone that is an option which will save you a whole dollar.
Testing, Testing
The engineers at KZ were obviously working hard to create a lovely, yet absolutely functional multi driver earbud. With the KZ AS10 they have succeeded with delivering clear crisp audio reproduction with all the separation of frequencies expected with such sophisticated hardware. KZ has leveraged 3D printing technology to construct the internal acoustic structure which not only houses the 5 audio drivers, it also acoustically guides the output to your input, your ears. Since the outer shell is crystal clear, you can actually see some of the internal components mounted to the internal shell. As always I listened to various music genres including but not limited to Classical, Country, Rock, Metal, Jazz, RnB, and House. The AS10 earbuds each contain a big dynamic driver for bass reproduction, two midrange drivers, and two high frequency drivers. Coupled with a professional level internal crossover design the KZ AS10 earbuds are smoothly reproducing all of those styles of music with crisp highs, solid lows, and singing midrange. I’ll have to be honest: I spend a lot of time wearing various earbuds both wired and BT and these KZ AS10 have to be the most comfortable test pair I’ve worn in months. The included ear tips were in standard large, medium, and small. On this set I found the smallest size to fit my ears best. They really sing in my ears with no discernable ear fatigue and I really enjoyed putting them through their paces.
Gotta Keep it Separated
The thing I really noticed and enjoyed about the KZ AS10 earbuds was the crystal clear separation. Not only the expected open sounding stereo separation, which was perfect, but really smoothly defined highs and mids. It didn’t matter if I was listening to Frank Sinatra, Frank Zappa, Aretha Franklin, Beyonce, or Alice In Chains. These earbuds rock. Of course I’m always unhappy with pre recorded MP3s especially in my ears but these earbuds really performed well whether listening to WMA, MP3, or actual uncompressed .wav files. The quality when listening to Streaming music was superb. The instructions suggest a breaking in period to get the most out of the KZ AS10 earbuds. I’m pretty sure I’ve gotten there by now. As an audio engineer and professional bass guitar player I’d like a bit more presence in the earbuds but that’s a preference, not a problem. If you are playing low quality MP3s you might hear some distortion at loud volumes, but as I state in every single article regarding earbuds or headphones: Be very careful with volume levels: ears don’t grow back.
Hear Hear
At the end of the day I found the Multi Driver KZ AS10 earbuds presented by Linsoul Audio to be a great mid range price for a high end product. The cost is a bit more than most wired earbuds but one is paying for quality of sound reproduction without compromise. Crystal clear well defined highs and smooth as silk mids combined with a clean low end will make even the most picky audiophile smile. I loved the design elements, and found them to be classy and original without being overdone. They are so comfortable I barely notice I have them on. When making phone calls the sound in my ears is natural and from reports by my business associates and family, my voice sounds authentic and clear. Nine and a half stars and I can’t wait until the next pair of Linsoul Audio featured earbuds lands on my desk. See you soon!
