Today I found a most curious device sitting on my desk. The Oiosen- LED Electronic Writing Tablet:
It’s an 8.5 inch LCD tablet which has one function, one switch, one button, and one stylus. It takes one battery to operate, and does not connect to any other device in any other way. It has a single purpose: let’s talk about it.
Single Minded
The OIOSEN writing tablet is the modern version of our childhood toy the peel away “magic” erase board. It came with a sheet of cardboard with a slab of waxy material covered by an opaque plastic screen. You would use the included plastic stylus to write or draw and when you were done you could lift the plastic screen to “magically erase” the image or text. This LED Writing tablet is an electronic copy of that childhood toy brought to today’s device based world.
In the Box
Opening the box you will find the slim and lightweight OIOSEN. You will also find a piece of paper with links to iOS and Android companion apps. Don’t worry, since the OIOSEN LED Electronic Writing Tablet doesn’t connect to any other devices in any way, it works just fine all by itself. The purpose of the app: It allows one to photograph the image on the screen, then manipulate it to send through various social media apps. Any Phone Camera could do as much or more with any decent image application, and the reviews at the Google Play Store are terrible. The apps are completely optional so I suggest you don’t bother. . It’s got a tiny switch on the top edge and a round black button. The device is constructed out of bright orange plastic with a black face and writing surface. A screw locked compartment at the top holds the replaceable battery, the very common CR2032. The tiny switch locks the screen so what every you drew or wrote cannot be erased, and when it’s in the off position, the round black button is used to erase the images. The double ended stylus snaps into place at the bottom of the device and has a pointy end and an angled end intended for thicker lines.
What’s it do?
What it does is allow you to have a grocery list, notepad, or sketch pad which can quickly be wiped to repeat the process. You draw on it. Push the button and it’s instantly clear. The LCD screen writes in a pale greenish color, which shows up well on the black background and is easy on the eyes. It’s big enough for a very complete list and small enough to stuff into your purse, but not your pocket. It makes a very good notepad for families. Moms and Dads and kids will enjoy this simple yet effective device.
Our Conclusion
The OIOSEN LCD Electronic Writing Tablet is exactly as advertised. It’s simple, effective and most importantly, cheaper to lose than your iPad or Android tablet. It uses a common battery which probably last “forever” on such a low power device so the cost of charging port, USB charger, etc is uncalled for. The linked Idoodle apps have terrible reviews so my thought is to use some other image manipulation program if you so desire. The OIOSEN LCD Electronic Writer costs about half the price of a cheap Android tablet but, it is what it is. Looking at its usefulness and cost: 7.5 out of ten.
