Cheero was nice enough to send out one of their latest generation models of Power Plus 3 power banks to take a look at. Quite similar to the one we covered sometime last year, it features the same shape and nearly the exact same layout outside of a few small changes.
So what is a power bank? In case you haven’t seen nearly every one out of ten people carrying one around yet–it is a small battery pack that fits well in your pocket that allows you to charge up your devices while you are on the go. A convenient tool to have in your backpack (or…pocket) when you are traveling around or stationary where you know you won’t have access to any plugs.
This one, black in color, shares the curved side edges giving it the same elliptic cylinder shape that is quite common across most of their power banks. Thisone is a little smaller in size than the last as well as 3,350mah less (this one is 10,050mah vs the 13,400 of last years model). Still more than capable however of charging your favorite smartphone 1.5-3 times–which is quite nice.
It features an all plastic design with enough weight for you to know that it isn’t there to play games. It isn’t crazy heavy or anything but just heavy enough so you know it isn’t a cheapo value store model. This power bank packs enough juice to keep your tablet alive for a full charge (to maybe even charge and a half) extra. We got various results depending on the tablet in question, but were at least able to get one full charge, worst case scenario. As mentioned, it will provide about 1.5-3 charges for smartphones. The instructions claim 2-3, but we found a few discrepancies with some of the larger phones.
At the top, there are two USB ports that can put out a total of up to 2.4 amps for those hungry devices. That is a total between the two so you are either going to get up to 2.4a out of one or 2.4a combined between the two when charging two devices at once. It would have been nice to see 2.4a each, but there might be a heat concern involved if so.
It isn’t the most powerful power bank that Cheero has to offer since they also have a model similar to last year’s that also puts out 13,400mah as well as up to 3.4a, which can really deliver for those QC compatible devices.
There is a small button at the top that when pressed will trigger a collection of small LEDs on the front that will tell you how much of a charge the bank has. If you begin to run low, the bank itself charges via a micro-USB to USB cable that connects to a micro-USB port that exists between the button and the two regular USB ports.
It goes for about $19.99, which isn’t bad as it feels like something you would pay for something like this, with the 13,400mah bank feeling as though it shouldn’t be that far off itself (although right now that model looks to be going for about $39.99, which is a bit high). I remember we didn’t like that price last time either (which was really the only thing weighing the score down. Thankfully the model we are discussing today is much more affordable. It just lacks the mah as the other.
Our Conclusion
Well, it’s a battery, it fits quite well in your pocket, charges your hungry devices as it should and the price is about right. We felt pretty confident that it will last quite a while and will make sure to follow up if we find any troubles down the line after multiple discharges.
