This has been the year of multi driver earbuds. Today the folks at RevoNext sent along the European styled RevoNext RN-QT3 Quad Driver In-ear Headphones. Let’s take a closer look and a listen:
Comfort Out of the Box
Like many of the multi driver earbuds I’ve tested over the past year, the RevoNext QT3 headphones have simple but elegant packaging: the twin matte black aluminum shell headphones are nested in a foam shell while the upscale 3.5mm cable is placed beneath along with the ubiquitous instruction booklet. You can also purchase the QT3 in ear headphones in Space Grey or Red. There are of course spare eartips, large and small, as in the usual way the medium-sized eartips are placed on the device for shipping. The instructions cover such things as proper fit for the QT3 earbuds, how to properly attach the cable to the drivers, and come in multiple languages. The included cable is 1.25 m long or just over 4 ft. The length seems great at my laptop or when walking around with my phone or tablet but I do have to remove the In-ear headphones if I need to move around the office away from my workstation. To attach the matte black cable to the matching earbuds: line up the L on the cable connector with the L on the left earbud then gently but firmly seat the two prong connection. Do the same while matching R with R on the right earbud. Like many high-end or mid level multi driver earbuds the cable is of higher quality, and comes with the option of a microphone and volume control for phone use for an extra dollar. The RevoNext QT3 as tested came with an audio cable. The cable is pre-formed to fit over one’s ear then the earbuds line up perfectly with your ear canal and can be easily pushed into your ear. The cable loop has some extra reinforcement where it is intended to rest on your ear. If there is any discomfort replace with the small ear tip and if the fit is loose, replace with the larger silicone ear tip. That’s all it takes and you are ready to plug the 3.5mm gold anodized audio jack into your device. I tested the Qt3 Quad Driver earbuds with many devices including several generation iPads, Android phones/tablets, a Kindle Fire HD, and of course I plugged the RevoNext earbuds into this PC while writing this article while enjoying the full range sound and distinct clarity. I listened to such genres as Classical, Jazz, Rock, R&B, Hip Hop, Alternative, Metal, Pop, House, and many others. Let’s take them to the listening room:

When you see the great European appearance of the QT3 earbuds, you can understand that the folks at RevoNext created the QT3 Quad Driver earbuds with style, as well as function. Designed in Sweden and manufactured in China under high standards, the RevoNext QT3 earbuds contain 2 low-end Dynamic Drivers covering Bass and Sub Bass frequency ranges. The next major component is a set of high/mid-range balanced armatures. The Qt3 earbuds have an ergonomically designed aluminum shell for comfort and external noise reduction. They are lightweight and very comfortable out of the box and I spent a good day listening with little fatigue. Note: these are plug and play 16 ohm analog in ear drivers: that means with the 7Hz-40Khz frequency range and 105 dB of sensitivity you can make these “too loud” so use all due caution when placing any device into your ears. Hearing doesn’t grow back. That being said: with multiple drivers the distortion problems which can lead to hearing loss are almost completely eliminated. I listened at high volumes for a long period of time and the RevoNext QT3 in ear headphones never got “too loud” or painfully loud and distortion was meaningless in my test environment. I found the frequency cuts to be seamless between drivers: you can definitely hear dynamic range when listening to classical or Jazz music. Of course since most modern popular music is normalized and compressed, such clarity isn’t really necessary when listening to pop or the radio. The RevoNext QT3 Quad Driver In-Ear Headphones performed smoothly across the frequency range with clear and crisp highs and mid range response coupled with very smooth low-end. None of the frequencies were over driven at any time and the bass presence was pleasant while absolutely not overpowering. Realize there is a huge difference between an 18 inch sub cabinet in one’s environment and a tiny dynamic sub driver in any earpiece. Hearing is not feeling but put on some Hip Hop and you can hear that “Thump Thump” of the kick drum. The stereo imaging in these RevoNext offerings was wide open with instruments appearing exactly where mixed and clearly popping with clarity and great separation. I was listening to some great Reggae mixes at one point and I was immediately struck by how openly I could hear every guitar note and how the percussion “popped” in my ears.
Final Thoughts
The Revonext QT3 Quad Driver In-ear Headphones as tested sound better than some of the in ear solutions I’ve tested this past year which cost almost twice as much and contained more drivers. I’ve heard in-ear multiple driver earbuds this year with almost a meaningless low-end presence. These aren’t that animal but don’t expect the low-end to shred your ears. It won’t; and that’s good news for most people. I absolutely loved how clear percussion instruments and drums sounded in RevoNext’s headphones while still properly laying in the horns and guitars with panache. The snares were snapping and popping out. I plugged the QT3 in-ear headphones into my audio test bench and they were able to reproduce a 32 Hz sine or square wave and I swept them from 30 Hz to 16000 Hz. The signal was smooth and even at most frequency ranges but at my age I can’t really hear much above 16 KHz no matter how well I’ve protected my ears in professional listening environments for decades. Don’t try this at home. Do try to enjoy listening to your favorite music genre because these babies are designed for pure audio pleasure. If you are looking for a solid sounding pair of audiophile quality multi driver in ear headphones at an entry-level price, the RevoNext QT3 Quad Driver In-ear Headphones are that animal. 9 out of 10 and I can’t wait to see the next great product from RevoNext!!
