Today a great little speaker showed up on my desk: The Sensport Move Mini Bluetooth Speaker with IPX6 water resistance. If you saw my article about the Sensport Rave Model 1 you can consider this the little brother to that great waterproof speaker. Let’s jump right in:
Water You Want
The Sensport Move Mini is a sharp looking and deceptively loud bluetooth speaker. The Move Mini also has the ability to play MicroSD cards or can be connected by a 3.5mm auxiliary input to your BT or non BT devices. It is very easy to connect to any BT smartphone, PC, Laptop, or tablet. The Sensport Move Mini is sold in a bright package filled with goodies. Included with the Move Mini speaker is the instruction booklet, a circular carabiner, a red leather strap which attaches to the carabiner, and two cables. One is the Aux cable. Remember: when using the Aux connection or when the back port is open, the IPX6 waterproof rating means nothing and you will wreck your device if you get it wet. The other cable was a really short, fancy white USB charging cable. Once you attach the circular carabiner and red leather strap through the lanyard hole, the Sensport Mini Move would look great hanging off one’s purse or backpack. And sound great, too! Let’s go deeper.
It’s Got Buttons!
Of course the IPX6 Waterproof and dust proof Move Mini BT speaker has buttons. From left to right you will encounter the power switch, play/pause, M(mode), and +/- buttons. Depending on your use, some of the buttons have different purposes. Power is power on/off. Play/pause is obviously used to play/pause tracks or videos from connected devices. It is also used when connected to your IOS or Android smartphone to answer/reject/return phone calls. M(mode) button is used to switch between BT, Micro SD card, or Aux mode if the cable is attached. The +/- buttons are used to raise/lower volume(long press) or switch to next or previous tracks with a short press. I did test the Move Mini BT speaker in the shower and found it worked great wet or dry and all of the buttons operated whether in the shower or out. It’s extremely simple to operate just like it’s big brother the Sensport Rave Model 1.
Details Details
The Sensport Move Mini only weighs in at 9 ounces making it easy to transport to any event. This speaker is 5.4 x 4.2 x 1.6 inches so it’s compact and yet surprisingly powerful. Sensport claims a 3-4 hour charging time which I found to be right on the money. The Move Mini kicks out an impressive 6 watts and playtime at 100% volume is expected to be around 5-6 hours. At 60% volume Sensport says you can play the Move Mini BT speaker for up to 26 hours without a charge! All that with only an 1800 mAh rechargeable lithium battery. It is extremely easy to pair to your smartphone or other device: simply turn on the Move Mini and it’s already in BT pairing mode. Look at your BT device’s pairing screen for “MOVE MINI” and connect. The Sensport Move Mini will automatically connect to the last device paired when first powered up so if you are changing devices remember to shut off the first BT connection before attempting to pair again. It just won’t connect. I found the Move Mini BT speaker operated well within the 33 ft BT range without any breakup or drop out when paired with my various Android, IOS, or my Kindle Fire. The Sensport Move Mini has a full range driver and a bass resonator in the front panel, and they sound just as good as the Stereo Sensport Rave Model 1, if not quite as loud. I have found that depending on source used the top volume level varies a bit: you will especially notice that when using Auxiliary input or the MicroSD card. Using BT connection the signal seems smoother and less abrupt. No matter which input you use this device can really thump for such a small speaker. Note: the maximum 32GB MicroSD card slot only supports Mp3 and WMA file formats.
Thump Thing’s Right
The Sensport Move Mini speaker is an extremely portable, extremely musical sounding BT speaker. It has my favorite option of a MicroSD card reader so it can be a stand alone player with a huge 32GB capacity. That’s 1000s of songs in the available MP3 and WMA formats. It can easily connect to any BT device or non BT device with the included Aux Cable. The Move Mini works well as a speaker phone which to me means it works as a speaker phone and well… It works. For such a small speaker body it has a big sound sure to please anyone in any genre of music. Sensport made a sharp looking, stylish speaker which works as well in the kitchen, or hanging on the side of my tent or backpack with up to 26 hours of playtime so you can go days without recharging if you only use it occasionally. I’ve done about 4 days playing about 3-4 hours a day at various sound levels while connected to many different devices, and I’ve still not had to recharge the Sensport Move Mini BT speaker. Because it only indexes tracks and not folders if your 32GB MicroSD card is set up with folder or nested folder you will have to go track by track by track to fast forward past music you don’t like: I suggest with the Move Mini you just have one giant folder filled with music instead of tens of folders. It’s not “dunk in the water” waterproof but it’s shower, rainfall, canoeing, and pretty much any incidental wetting proof. 9.5 out of ten because I never give a ten. Thanks again Sensport for allowing us to feature one of your fine products again! I can’t wait to see what comes next from this innovative company.
