Out of the various “portable” monitor solutions we have come across, so far there is one within the 1080p genre that has captured our attention the most, and it isn’t even a brand we’ve touched on before. It is the UPERFECT Portable 15.6 USB-C/HDMI 1080p IPS Monitor.
A monitor that sells itself well with an attractive list of features, some of which you find missing in many of the other portable solutions. Color accuracy being a big one for discussion since this can easily make or break a screen. For this one, it is very well made (blessed by the Don himself, you could say).
Cracking the box open, you are presented with the screen along with a document that walks you through the various ways of connecting it to your source (ie, laptop, desktop, smartphone, tablet, gaming console, etc).
The screen is similar to many of the other models we have comes across recently. An impressively thin profile and a weight of just 2.3 lbs, including the cover wrapped around. The cover, similar to most folding tablet covers, attaches magnetically to the back of the screen and flips around to protect it when not in user (it is also used to prop the screen up with).
Each accessory is wrapped individually and neatly placed within the package, located under the screen. They have all of the cables to make things happen no matter what your setup may be. A total of three cables are provided.
- USB-C to USB cable along with a wall adapter, in case you are connecting it to your setup via HDMI (since HDMI cannot pass power for the screen).
- An HDMI cable to mini HDMI (screen-side) for connecting it to any HDMI supported device.
- USB-C to USB-C cable for connecting it directly to the laptop with, which passes both power and video (the best way to go if your setup supports it).
USB-C to USB-C connectivity does require the support for DisplayPort over USB-C. Not all laptops/desktops offer this, so it is important to make sure of this before you go this route. If your specs claim it supports video over USB-C in any way, you should be fine and this monitor will work via this method.
There is a manual to run you through setting up the screen and making your way around the OSD. You’ll want to get to know this to get the most out of the display capabilities of this screen, although it already looks amazing right out of the box.
The controls on the monitor are simple and don’t need instructions to understand. The OSD/Menu can be accessed via the toggle wheel on the side by pressing it down. This is where you can control the various options and settings of the monitor.
It even has a headphone out (although your system likely already offers this unless you are connecting this to a mobile device like a phone or tablet).
Which yes, this works fine with mobile devices all the same, like smartphones and tablets. The catch is that these devices have to support video out. If the device doesn’t natively have USB-C, you’ll have to adapt (ie, lightning to HDMI). You will likely have to also make use of the wall plug regardless of going USB-C or HDMI as your mobile device likely will not be able to output enough power to also juice the screen along with the video signal. Ideal situations like this include the latest Samsung phones that can produce a desktop experience if you dock them.
All of the data ports are located on the opposite side, including the HDMI port (mini HDMI) and two USB-C ports. Two since one may still be needed for power depending on the device you are feeding it with, and or you can throw in a mouse/keyboard receiver here so accessory access.
There are even built-in speakers, which actually have a good deal of volume to them. They will absolutely deliver when mobile and even better than many of the laptops out there (I mean, what is it with laptops that have terrible volume?). If the headphone jack works in your setup (and your source device doesn’t have an audio out), then you can break out to speakers (or headphones) to take things further.
Performance
What really highlights this model for us is the quality of the screen. We have run into a few models that offered boring color profiles and not nearly enough brightness to compete with. Some other options offer a decent level of brightness, lack in the realm of color accuracy. This one doesn’t seem to lack in either of these two categories.
To put this one to the test, we connected it via USB-C to one of the Dell laptops we have lying around that feature 4K HDR and some of the best IPS screens that Dell has ever made use of. They have really done a good job competing with companies like Apple when it comes to displays (just look at their 8K solution for example). This makes for a tough side-by-side experience but also forces the challenging screen to put up or shut up.
Low and behold, this portable monitor puffed its chest out and nearly matched the Dell screen. First, we thought this was impressive for being a 1080p screen as no other 1080p (portable) solution has been able to match one of these Dells side-by-side. Then we noticed, that it was because it was actually running at 4K, matching the laptop’s desktop.
This can happen at times even though the screen isn’t spec’d out as a 4K solution. Usually, because it can’t fully deliver the required specs to be 4K certified. We then confirmed this by switching to HDMI and found ourselves limited to 1080p. So it has to do with the hardware inside of the monitor that was used in its build. For example, the electronics surrounding HDMI 2.0 and 4K may likely be more expensive to assemble/include than USB-C 4K capabilities, likely due to licensing costs.
One of our favorite things about the Dell screen is its color profile/accuracy and brightness. This portable screen matches this quite well thanks to its 100% DCI-P3, 99% Adobe RGB color space, and QLED Screen. The brightness of this monitor is on par with the other screen, as you can see in the above image. Its colors are accurate and quite appealing to the eyes and perfect if you spend a lot of time editing photos (ie, Photoshop) or videos (ie, Premiere or Final Cut), where you rely heavily upon color accuracy.
Our Conclusion
So did we like it? I would say we did! This screen makes for a wonderful portable solution when you are looking to keep your weight down and your footprint small, while still getting as much screen space and performance as possible. The colors and brightness set this model apart from the rest and really won us over. We could only imagine what they could do with 4K with touch support (it would likely be 100% on par with the Dell screens we put this one up against). We look forward to watching them grow and discovering where they go in the future with their product.

It looks nice. What about their 4K touch option? Have you tried or tested it?
