ADATA has joined the party with some PS5-compatible PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSDs of its own (ADATA Legend 840 PCIe Gen4 SSDs). PCIe Gen4 NVMe drives have taken us to a whole new level of “fast” despite the PCIe Gen3 models already taking us further ahead than we have ever come in the past. Now that “fast” is even “faster” as the new generation of NVMe delivers speeds of up to 2x or greater than that of Gen3.
This is also the required realm to be in if you are looking to add additional space to your PlayStation 5 console without taking a hit on performance. Making these new NVMe options all the more popular consumers jump on the opportunity.
They will be available in two different capacity options, including 500GB ($119) and 1TB (179). Oddly, they skipped the 2TB tier this round. This is a bit odd, as there is likely going to be a lot of popularity behind these drives due to the price-point compared to the competition.
Of course, with such a good price comes a little balance. These drives aren’t the best Gen4 speeds available right now, so you are taking a little sacrifice on speed. Read/Write speeds are 5,000/4,500 MBps, still making them plenty fast while falling less than options from some other companies/options (ie, Seagate’s FireCuda 530 PCIe Gen4 NVMe can hit speeds of up to 7,300MBps). Biw everyone can afford the Seagate drives though, which do run quite a bit more ($100 difference for the 1TB option).
The new ADATA Legend 840 PCIe Gen4 SSDs are part of a larger release that also includes a number of PCIe Gen3 models and will be launching shortly. We don’t have a release date, as the company hasn’t shared this information quite yet. However, we can only assume that they will be launching this holiday season to take advantage of that valuable sales traffic.
They can currently be pr-ordered via a few locations, including B&H (ADATA Legend 840 PCIe Gen4 SSDs). They will also be available via Amazon (here) when available stock arrives.
