Amazon has just announced a number of new devices within its fall line of hardware. Among these devices are the new 5th-Gen Echo Dot speakers with Alexa. And with every new generation of the company’s Echo speakers, they come with some new features to improve upon the previous. However, this time around, those differences are notable.
One of the newly added abilities helps to justify that $50 price tag. Especially, if you jump on one during one of the Prime Day events (and one is coming up next month) or during Black Friday. That new ability is the integration of Amazon’s Eero technology that allows the smart speaker to act as a Wi-Fi extender for your network. Specifically working with an Amazon Eero Mesh Wi-Fi System.
With this new ability, you can continue to extend your network everywhere a (5th-Gen) Echo Dot is located. Leading to much wider coverage of your network. Again, this will only work when on the same network as an Eero Mesh Wi-Fi System. So if you have a different mesh router, this feature won’t be available. However, if you are an Eero user, this is a powerful perk to have.
Of course, improvements in sound are always a focus of each generation as well. Amazon says the bass response of the new speakers is improved upon, as well as crisper highs for vocals. Along with that come new gesture controls. As well as the inclusion of motion and temperature sensors that will help control various scenes and devices. Making for another nice feature that helps extend the device’s benefits.
These new perks cover both the regular Echo Dot and Echo Dot with Clock models. Not only that, but the company said that it plans to roll an update out that will add Eero support to the previous 4th-Gen models as well. A nice surprise that will benefit a lot of consumers who already have the previous-gen model (and who also make use of the Eero system).
So the new Echo Dots are quite powerful devices. No more are they basic little speakers that already had a lot of control over other devices in your network. Now they are packed with built-in features that really help sell them to new and current users, alike. Absolutely the best Echo Dot yet!
The Echo Dot speakers are available now on Amazon for $49.99 (Echo Dot) and $59.99 (Echo Dot with Clock).
