Amazon has locked in the dates for its fall Prime Day event. Prime Big Deal Days will run for 48 hours starting at 12:01AM PT on October 6th and wrapping up at 11:59PM PT on October 7th. New deals will drop three times a day throughout the event — at midnight, 8AM, and 1PM PT — through Amazon’s “Today’s Big Deals” page, so it’s worth checking back rather than assuming everything goes live at once.
Amazon says the sale will span more than 35 categories, with deals hitting seasonal fall and holiday items alongside the usual mix of tech, home goods, and everyday essentials. In a statement, Carmen Nestares, Amazon’s VP of North America marketing and Prime Tech, framed the event as a way to get ahead of the holiday season’s hosting, decorating, and gifting all at once. As with previous years, expect Amazon’s own devices — Echo, Fire TV, Kindle — to see some of the more aggressive discounts, alongside third-party brands piling in for the ride.
The catch, as always, is that this isn’t a sale for everyone — it’s a sale for Prime members. If you’re not already subscribed, Amazon offers a few different ways in: the standard Prime plan runs $14.99 a month or $139 a year, there’s a discounted $7.49-a-month tier for college students and young adults aged 18 to 24, and a $6.99-a-month Prime Access tier for people receiving government assistance like SNAP or Medicaid. All of them come with at least a 30-day free trial, which conveniently is more than enough time to sign up right before the sale.
Amazon also says Alexa for Shopping, its newer AI shopping assistant, will be able to build a personalized deals guide and set alerts for specific products or categories based on your lists and shopping history, which could make the usual fire hose of Big Deal Days listings a little easier to sift through. If the past few years are any indication, expect the real bargains to be scattered among plenty of items that were just as cheap a few months ago — so it’s still worth price-checking anything expensive before you buy.
