Many computer users, let it be Mac or PC, are quite accustomed to using external USB drives to backup their important files with. Typically something like a MyBook or alternative with software such as Acronis True Image running so that you don’t lose all of those important projects you are working on, the thousands of photos you have taken of your kids or the music library you have built up over time from iTunes.
However, what about an external drive for your phone? As mobile devices grow and evolve, they take on so many tasks, you tend to fall behind clearing or backing up data to keep the mess down. That could be a problem when you begin to run out of space, but what if something were to happen? Let’s say you have over 2 years worth of images you still have to sort through on your phone, you have never backed it up to your computer and guess what…you just dropped it into the pool while chasing down a runaway child or pet (given, I hope you wouldn’t ever find yourself in a situation where you would be chasing a young child around an open/unprotected pool).
A company by the name of PhotoFast is aiming to find a solution for this with a special Lightning to USB charging cable that comes with up to 128GBs of memory built-in. You can use it as a backup or simply as an external drive for whatever you want. Maybe an extra boost in your traveling music collection. It plugs into your Lightning connection and operates regardless of if it is plugged in to charge on the other end or not. It comes with its own app to configure things with, where you can control backup features and even secure everything with a password or Touch ID.
At the moment, the cable is not yet available as it is still in its crowdfunded phase. For more information or to donate to the cause, you can read up on it here on Indiegogo.
