Another major blow has been dealt to Anker as the company seems to be facing a pretty noticeable problem with its power bank products. Earlier this month, the company had already initiated a recall of its PowerCore 10000 power banks, which amounted to over a million units that were affected. This was the second recall of that series, and now it has spread even further.
These recalls focus on consumer safety as there have been reports of smoking or even units catching fire. This can possibly burn someone or even start a fire. Thus, the company recalled these products to minimize any future incidents.
Now, the recall has spread even further as it now involves multiple power bank products, which likely will affect most consumers who have purchased a power bank from the company. Per the official recall page, the following products are affected:
- Anker Power Bank (10K, 22.5W) — Model A1257
- Anker Power Bank (20,000mAh, 22.5W, Built-In USB-C Cable) — Model A1647
- Anker MagGo Power Bank (10,000mAh, 7.5W) — Model A1652
- Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W, Built-In USB-C and Lightning Cable) — Model A1681
- Anker Zolo Power Bank (20K, 30W, Built-In USB-C Cable) — Model A1689
This recall is part of the company’s new strategies surrounding consumer safety and proactive measures to minimize hazardous situations. Anker says that the likelihood of malfunction is “minimal,” but is taking action just to be safe. It affects all units that make use of lithium-ion battery cells from a single vendor.
Consumers are asked to halt the usage of these products and make use of the recall page to submit the required information to show proof of ownership. Once a consumer is approved, they are to properly dispose the affected unit. They will be offered a replacement or a gift card to be used on Anker’s website.
Hopefully, this doesn’t affect the company’s larger products, like its whole-home solar line of battery solutions. I would assume that those batteries would have a completely different manufacturing process and maybe even completely different partners/vendors related.
