Anker has unfortunately initiated another recall from the PowerCore line of power banks, this time affecting the Anker PowerCore 10000 Power Bank. The power bank is being recalled throughout the US due to potential fire risks, and the company is asking customers to reach out for a replacement.
The recall specifically affects all units sold between June 2016 and December 2022 that bear the model name “A1263”. These units can potentially overheat, leading to fire or worse. There have already been 19 reported cases of this happening.
Customers have the option to obtain a replacement unit or opt for a $30 credit instead. This can be done by visiting the company’s recall page, where you simply have to show proof that you own one (that you actually have one).
It is up to the customer to properly dispose of (recycle) the original unit, as it is not necessary to send it back. Just imagine over a million potentially defective units hitting the mail at the same time. It just wouldn’t be a good thing. So make sure to follow the proper instructions for disposal.
A few years ago, Anker had also recalled its PowerCore 20K model due to similar issues. Given the affected date range for the PowerCore 10000 units, this could be related to the same issues that the model experienced. This may call into question what other issues may potentially exist with other PowerCore models within that time window. Either way, the company is recognizing that there is an issue with this one and is acting responsibly to resolve the problem.
