Going vegan isn’t just a term that is reserved for a human diet. Now, vegan is being applied to so many other things. Like the fake leather (or “vegan leather”) that is used inside Tesla vehicles. Now another company is stepping forward to join the bandwagon with semi-vegan USB-C cables. That company is Anker and the product is Anker’s bio-based USB-C cables.
The cable isn’t 100% bio-based, but the exterior (the insulating layers) is 40% plant-based (per the company). So the shielding running around the cable to protect the wires inside and the material around the heads at each end (what you’d normally find to be plastic) is semi-vegan. Making use of corn and sugar cane to form the “propietary” material.
It is available as a USB-C to USB-C variant or a USB to Lightning and in either 3ft or 6ft options. You can also choose between black, white, green, purple, or blue cable colors. these cable are themed to match some of the companies latest wall chargers, although only the cables feature bio-based materials (for now).
As for the price, it does fluctuate a little depending on choice, but the prices seem to range from $16.99 to around $21.99 depending on size and connector type. We have made sure to include some links/buttons here to make finding them easier (below).
It’s hard to say how far the company will take the idea of going bio-based (or at least, semi-bio-based) with future product releases. Although, you can bet it will try if these cables become a hit. It’s also hard to say if the general public will even care as many only care about features and cost (feel free to use the comments below to share your own thoughts).
