One of the first things you should ever get when buying into a new game console is a wireless charging dock for the controllers. Why? Because it makes your experience so much better when you don’t have to keep swapping out expensive batteries all the time. Slap them on the dock when you’re done, pick them back up when you are ready to play again. So why not do the same with your new Oculus Quest 2?
Anker has developed just that. A charging dock for the Oculus Quest 2. Simply place your headset and controllers on the dock when you are finished with your VR session, and let it do all the charging. No having to plug cables into anything. Just drop and run.
The new dock will be launching next month and is available for pre-order right now, around January 22nd.
It looks like the controllers drop into a set of contacts to start charging, while the headset has a magnetic adapter like many of the magnetic charging cables you see on the market. You slide the tip into the headset and when you place it into the dock, a short cable sticking out on the side snaps into place, connecting to the adapter.

There is nothing like making your life a little easier. Hopefully, it is as usual friendly as it looks. We haven’t gotten our hands on one, so it’s hard to say, but it appears as though it would deliver as promised.
It will cost you though as the charging dock will run you $86.99, which does feel just slightly steep when you compare it to some of the charging docks available for consoles and such. Some of these other docks would run you anywhere between $15-$30 on average. This is only slightly more complicated looking with a little more plastic in its footprint. So maybe it’s just to recoup some R&D costs at the start.
