This has been a growing topic recently, covering both add-on solutions as well as laptops with two to three screens that slide or swing out. Going mobile with more than just a single laptop screen is no longer as popular. In the past, of course, multiple screens in this situation wasn’t much of an option. Monitors were too bulky to carry around. Then came low profile solutions that pack quickly in a small space, and in some situations, the same sleeve or case your laptop slides into.
Making it even easier to accomplish this, the latest USB-C port that has been out for a while now has the ability to send video to a monitor (just like HDMI or DisplayPort). Your USB-C port does have to support this as it does need enough power to do so. So the USB-C on a tablet or phone won’t always work, but some of the latest flagships should make the cut. Simply plug a USB-C cable between the system and the low profile screen, and now you have a second screen to work with.
A new player in the mix has just this. The company “Espresso Displays” is pushing to bring their new mobile monitors to the market that will be available in both 13.3″ and 15.6″ variations. They will feature a 1080p resolution, and 10-point touch (touchscreen). They come with multiple cables so that you can still go with HDMI if you like, and they offer multiple magnetic accessories that allow the screen to stand, tilt or even hang using a standard VESA mount.

They will range from $249 AUD (which would be around $170 USD) for the 13.3″ model and $259 AUD (or around $175 USD) for the 15.6″ model. They are still within their Kickstarter stage, so it will be a while before you can get your hands on one. For now, you can go there to pre-order and be one of the first to get one in the mail. You can learn more here on their Kickstarter page.
If we get a chance to test one out in the future, we will let you know what we find.
