In a leak provided originally by Gizmodo, an incident report has surfaced from Apple detailing an event where an Apple employee had experienced eye pain while making use of a new ocular prototype that Apple has been working on.
Direct information was not provided in the report outside of certain highlightable words (such as “ocular” and “prototype”), however it gives hope that Apple may be working on yet another upcoming VR (virtual reality) or AR (augmented reality) solution for the market. This would be good, as the more competition that hits the market, the faster we will start seeing revolutionary changes in the market. It would get us one step closer to adding AI and internet to everything our eyes see, as well as enhance the games we all play.
For now, it is just speculation created by Gizmodo and everyone else as they read into the wording and allow their hopes to take it from there.
Until companies like Apple and Microsoft begin to release their renditions of these products, such as the HoloLens, the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift will continue to dominate the VR market as smaller adapters for phones like the Samsung Gear VR and the Zeiss VR One will dominate the AR (and sub VR) side.
Microsoft is also working on a separate VR solution from the HoloLens that will compete with the likes of Oculus and HTC. So time will tell what Apple is really trying to go up against. One thing is for sure, the demand is there and waiting.
