It just wasn’t a good business day for AT&T as thousands of customers around the country reported a loss of service today. The troubles began early in the morning with connectivity issues and other complaints popping up within various online communities.
The issue became so big that customers on other networks started reporting outages to their providers thinking it was on their end. When really, the other providers pointed out that these customers were just having issues trying to reach out to someone on AT&T’s network (who was unreachable).

Things continued to build throughout the morning with additional complaints pouring into AT&T from some of the biggest cities in America. Until the company eventually got a hand on things and brought everything back online. The company took to X (previously known as Twitter) about an hour ago (around 3:30 PM) to announce that all services had been restored.
AT&T has yet to announce what specifically caused the problem to their network. So as of right now, the entire event is a mystery. It could have been as simple as a DNS issue or someone who fired off bad code in an update without checking their work. Or, of course, it could have been a major breach that the company is just strategizing on how to announce it in a way that would be minimal to a loss in its stock value. Either way, it claims that it is working to prevent whatever it was from happening again in the future and will likely announce something when it is ready.
Update: AT&T has publicly announced that during its investigation into the matter, it felt that the issue was due to an incorrect process it executed as part of a network expansion upgrade. That it was not related to any type of cyber attack.
