AT&T is suffering from another outage, throwing thousands of iPhone users offline and disconnected from its normal services. Many of these customers have been taking to the internet to share that their iPhone shows as being in SOS mode, unable to make normal phone calls.
Things aren’t looking well for AT&T since it has suffered from a history of outages over the last year. Leading to lawsuits and other grievances. Now the company suffers from what it says to be a software issue that has led to a number of issues within its network it is trying to track down and fix.
It doesn’t seem to be limited to iPhone users since Android users have also taken to the internet to share that they too have lost connectivity. But it does seem to be focused on iPhone users more than anyone else.
AT&T says that the issue has only affected a “limited number” of its customers. Emphasizing that most customers shouldn’t see any service disruptions. However, those affected have experienced downtimes that have been going on for hours.
This is just one scenario of many that show how important it is for these companies to triple-check their work before rolling out changes. From large-scale cellular outages to global groundages of flights of many airlines. Sometimes it only takes a simple error to cause devastating damage. At times it can be an update to a company’s network, other times it could be an update to the very tools that are meant to protect these companies from such things. With so many potential points of failure, it can be hard to catch every mistake before it rolls out.
