It looks like beyerdynamic is reaching out to its customers in regard to their Blue Byrd (1st gen) wireless earbuds due to problems that have resulted in them having to issue an unfortunate recall of the product.
They are sending emails to their known customers who have purchased these earbuds in the past, requesting that they send the product back for a refund. Beyerdynamic has mentioned that this is a rare issue, but they are taking no chances with the safety of their customers (always good to hear).
From beyerdynamic:
There is the possibility that under certain circumstance this In-Ear headphone can exhibit overheating of the controller component during the charging process. If the headphone has been exposed to salty water which has penetrated the case it can cause damage to the charging circuit which can then lead to overheating to a level that can distort the casing and cause the casing to become very hot.
With appropriate handling during charging of the product, according to the user manual, this possible problem will not occur.
The risk assessment was classified MINOR by our quality department and an independent, certified German testing institute.
beyerdynamic as manufacturer of the product has taken the decision to start a product retrieval process for sold products. Safety, responsibility and reliability for you as our customer is our highest priorities.
If you haven’t received an email yet, you will most likely get one soon. If you’re not in their records because you bought it in a store in person or an online outlet not associated with them, you can reach out to them on their website for further instructions.
This is the only known recall we have seen from beyerdynamic. They are one of Germany’s top brands in the market for consumer and professional headphones.
Update: This model has since been replaced by the Blue Byrd (2nd gen).
