In a world where every move you make outside could be potentially dangerous where they might be other people around, it becomes increasingly useful to be able to work out at home. I am using the movie trailer guy voice in my head far too much. This bike, however, I am not using enough (or at all, yet)!
Thankfully, the issues surrounding being around other people that have been caused by COVID-19 will eventually be a worry of the past (eventually). In the meantime (and beyond), you can exercise safely at home using your favorite equipment.
When it comes to cardio, two of the most popular options are treadmills and exercise bikes, the latter of which we have come across an interesting new option.
Bowflex recently launched a new Bowflex VeloCore exercise bike that competes against the likes of NordicTrack and Peleton. You get a huge library of activities to choose from, including your typical fitness screens, to trainer videos, personalized coaching, and the option to explore the world by virtual biking. You also have access to 3rd party apps like Netflix, HULU, Amazon Prime Video, and more.
It features all of your normal controls including your typical tension knob to control the intensity of your workout. It tracks everything and provides history, goals, and even awards for your progress. Then there is something that is quite unique. The ability to unlock the bike from the frame where it can now lean to the left and right, to simulate going around corners with and enhancing the workout experience. The screen will even provide notifications on when to lean one way or the next during the workout.
The only thing it seems to be missing is the ability to go full VR with your favorite VR headset (now that, would send many people running to them to buy one, I’m sure). Maybe some games to challenge the user with as well would be nice. We spoke with Bowflex during a recent event where we got to pick their mind a little. It doesn’t have VR or interactive games, but it does have everything else you need to take your workout seriously (and lean into your effort with).
It comes in two models, one with a 16″ screen ($1699) and one with a 22″ screen ($2199). Expensive, yet still competitively priced when you compare it to some of the like-companies that have similar products and services. It is available from Best Buy. There are a few options out there (like here on Amazon), however, the prices are inflated.
A unique bike for indoor cycling that makes me want to buy one myself. I’m sure I can figure out my own VR option for it.
