First Netflix, then YouTube and now DirectTV. The sources of 4k content are starting to grow. The big push usually starts with one of the cable/sat providers offering a new resolution as competition always follows. You will probably see other companies like Cox, Comcast, and Dish leaning further into the same direction as consumer response comes rolling in.
At the moment, the content is only available to customers who have a 2014 model of Samsung’s 4k TVs (“they are the only televisions that are DirecTV 4K ready with built-in RVU technology” – DirecTV) and will require one of DirecTV’s latest Genie HD DVR models. So for the moment, only a select few will be able to take advantage of this.
The content features a select list of on-demand (pay to watch) movies from Paramount Pictures and Havoc with more content and eventually channels to come next year.
