Anyone invested in Eufy camera products should be quick to reset power to everything and make sure they have the most current version of the app on their device, due to a recent bug that struck the company’s servers. The bug resulted in allowing users access to video feeds of other customers. Not only to their camera, but to admin settings, and more.
The company responded by saying that it was due to a bad upgrade that was issued to its servers and had it patched within an hour and a half after the upgrade occurred. However, it gave plenty of time for random users to run across this bug within their own app as they tried to view their cameras during this window. Resulting in numerous comments online via platforms like Twitter and Facebook.
Thankfully, the only fix you have to worry about includes a few steps. The first is resetting power to your devices. This will likely cause them to ping the cloud and look for any updates. Then check the app store on your mobile device to make sure the Eufy app is up-to-date. If it is (or once it is), log out and log back in. These are the instructions offered by Eufy to its customers via a post on its forums.
Users should jump at following these instructions as soon as possible to make sure there aren’t any problems lingering. There seem to be reports suggesting that this bug was regional to the area of Australia and New Zealand, but as with any security mishap, you can never be too careful.
