You have so many types of solutions to pick from when it comes to smart lighting. Some are enclosed ecosystems, while some can be integrated with so many others to create the ultimate harmony between devices throughout your home. Some have small purposes, and some have grand.
In the case of Feit Electric’s new OneSync LED Light System, it is what appears to be a powerful proprietary self-contained ecosystem of products and controls targeted for environments like your kitchen (ceiling, walls, cabinets, etc). A modular one at that, in which many of the products can daisy chain to make the path much easier to control, without power plugs running to multiple outlets (unless you have a break in cabinets–for example–like two sides of a kitchen).
The lineup comes with its own control options that can be controlled by switches, an app, or even a swipe of your hand in front of a motion/gesture controller. Devices within 50ft can all be controlled at once or individually, and they can even connect between each other to help strengthen the connection between devices and controller (similar to a mesh approach).
The modular feature allows various products to connect to each other to daisy chain with, and they even have outlets you can chain in between to add power sources for other devices where there isn’t a wall outlet nearby (we liked that part).
Although we haven’t spent any time playing with it ourselves, it does sound like a fantastic solution from what we have gathered thus far. We recently spoke with Feit Electric during a remote event, digging into the capabilities of the products.
At the moment, as mentioned, it is a self-contained ecosystem using their devices and app. However, sometime around February of 2021, they plan on launching a smart bridge that will allow it all to integrate with your favorite digital assistants (Alexa, Google, etc).
There are no current plans to integrate it with 3rd party hubs (ie, Smartthings), but you can still pull off integrating two product ecosystems if the hub/interface you are already using has access to Alexa/Google as well (once Feit’s smart bridge is available). So you are only limited by your own imagination (and experience with customizing these technologies between each other).
Right now, the OneSync LED Light System is only available at Home Depot locations and website via a partnership they have with each other. Sometime around March of 2021, it should roll out to other retail options as well.
