Companies continue the mad rush to get bragging rights in before Sony launches the upcoming PS5 firmware update this month that will allow users to expand their storage using qualified NVMe SSD options. Companies like Western Digital and Seagate have made their mark and now Gigabyte follows suit with its AORUS Gen4 NVMe.
Gigabyte published a quick video on Twitter showing that its drive was “PS5 ready”, making sure it wasn’t left out of the mad race to expand storage when the new firmware rolls out. Currently, in beta, it is only accessible by a select few users interested in testing things out before it becomes ready for the masses.

The AORUS NVMe drives are available 1TB ($199) and 2TB ($399) capacity options. The drives are capable of up to 7,000 MB/s read speeds and 5,500MB/s write speeds (when installed on a PCIe Gen4 setup (which the PS5 is). Both drives are sold by retailers like Amazon and Newegg (buttons below), although, it seems the drives are pretty sold out at the moment so you may have to wait. Hopefully, they will be available by the time the firmware update rolls out. If not, at least you have the options from other companies.
