Google Fiber continues to leave the competition in the dust with only a few companies trailing (somewhat) closely behind. However, this huge step forward will make it difficult for even those few companies to keep up.
The company is pushing forward to provide even faster speeds, raising the bar all the way to 20Gbps. It will affect select customers as part of a trial run. However, it will eventually expand further to all customers by the end of the year if all works out.
By upgrading to the new tier, customers will be provided a new modem/router combo that supports the new Wi-Fi 7 standard (that is making big waves itself). Providing blazing fast speed all around for both wired and wireless devices.
As fiber (and speeds like these) continues to roll out via a small handful of competitive providers, it is giving way to the biggest increase in download/upload speeds we have ever seen since the move from dial-up to high-speed internet.

Meanwhile, we are all still patiently waiting for Google to make its way to the Las Vegas area. As we still find 1Gbps to be the average limit for the valley due to a slow fiber expansion by the few companies currently offering services to residents and businesses. Where even the jump to 6-8Gbps symmetrical speeds would be instantly life-changing. You can just imagine how something like 20Gbps would change the valley.
