Ever since Google did away with Android Auto replacing it with Driving Mode within Google Maps, the entire usage of it changed a little. Not everyone liked the transition while it won over others. But one thing is for sure, usage is likely going down now that most cars are coming with enhanced navigation and infotainment features that kind of make it feel outdated.
This may be similar to what Google is thinking as the code of one of the latest releases of the Google app for Android hints at the deprecation of Driving Mode within the next few months. This would either put an end to Driving Mode or give way to something new.
Of course, changes happen every day so nothing is set in stone just yet and there is still plenty of speculation behind it all. The next release could drop these changes completely or slightly move in a different direction with some kind of alternative replacement. Regardless, it seems that the company is mauling over the future of the feature in one form or another.
It may come down to how many users are still making use of the feature. If there just isn’t enough interest, this would be the most drive for the company to get rid of it.
That being said, do you still make use of Driving Mode within Google Maps? How does your use compare to the past? Feel free to share your own thoughts in the comments below.
