The war will be lit up again between the likes of Google and Amazon now that Google has made an official announcement for when it plans to roll AI out for its Google Nest smart speakers, screens, and thermostats. The new update will bring with it enhancements to the voices and dialects that Google Assistant uses to engage the user so that the conversation will seem less robotic and more AI.
To assist with this, It will also sound less robotic in the way it communicates, allowing for more natural requests and interactions instead of having to use specific commands. This includes being able to follow up questions and remain in the conversation.
The company intends to allow Google Assistant to understand your unique home layout and attributes. Allowing it to learn more about it and you as you go so that it can better assist you through normal everyday conversation. Giving it the ability to know what you are referring to or potentially where you are in the home when you ask for something.
It is exactly what the company has been trying to do from the beginning but lacked the technology to deliver until now (potentially). It also, kind of, seems like something out of the latest AI horror movies–only it will have far less control over your home than these Hollywood scenarios.
So this will all be playing out sometime later this year. Or at least that’s the plan. Amazon has been promising the same for around a year now and we have yet to see it happen. Amazon has even teased the idea that it plans to charge users monthly for the more AI-delivered experience. So there is a chance that Google might tip-toe down the same path to help recoup some of the deep costs related to AI R&D. For now, all we can do is wait it out and see if it actually rolls out or not. Then find out if it is as capable as promised. This could (potentially) be the starting point of finally having out own personal Jarvis devices in our homes.
