HELM Audio, a headphone manufacturer making waves within the audio community, has announced the release of their new THX-certified headphone amplifier, the DB12 AAAMP. A name that features a play on words as the AAA in AAAMP stands for THX’s high-fidelity Achromatic Audio Amplifier, which focuses on increased volume without distortion and minimized power consumption.
The new amplifier features a cable format that rides inline between your headphones and the 3.5mm source (smartphone, computer, etc). It amplifies the sound being sent to the headphones by +12 dB without the need for any other cables or additional power consumption of the connected source. It also provides an optional +6 dB bass boost for those looking for a little low-end.

It achieves this by sporting an internal battery that provides up to 6 hours of use or longer. When you finally run out of juice, there is a USB-C port that is used to charge the amp using any USB source.
Since it doesn’t require a USB connection to the source device, it can be used on literally anything that offers a headphone port. The MSRP is going to be $199, with an initial launch being offered at Drop (link and details coming soon) before it rolls out to other outlets.
We’ll have more on this later when we’ve had a chance to experience one ourselves, where we will let you know what we think.
