Hollyland has a new mic it just launched targeting mobile users who shoot a lot of content using their smartphone (and other USB-C or Lightning devices). The new mic is called the Hollyland Lark C1 wireless lav, and as you can guess, it comes in both USB-C and Lightning flavors.
It looks quite similar to the company’s Lark M1 that targets smaller rigs as well, only this one directly attaches to your device vs relying upon a 3.5mm connection, cable, and mounting point. While also offering a pass-through port so that you can still charge your device while using it (in case you are running around with it and prefer to keep it on a tripod or something).
Taking up minimal space and similar to today’s wireless earbud options, it would fit easily in your pocket and keeps a noticable charge thanks to its charging/travel case that provides up to 32 hours of operation before you have to charge everything (up to 8 hours of charge per transmitter before it has to go back in the case).
The company says that the receiver and transmitters can capture audio from up to 650ft apart (line of sight), supports 48 kHz/16 bit audio capture, and active noise canceling (to help cancel out some of the background noise in your environment). All for a price point of around $179 for the dual kit (to mics, one receiver, and the case).
It sounds like a great solution for those who like to keep things simple. Which isn’t hard to do thanks to the cameras and stabilization features on todays smartphones. All you have to do is slap the receiver into the bottom of your phone, clip one or both of the mics to whomever you are trying to capture audio from, and your off to record your content.
Of course, you could also connect it to your favorite action camera as well, or anything else that can take a microphone through USB-C or Lightning. You just have to pick one or the other as each would be a different model option.
The kit is available now via Amazon for the Lightning version and it looks like the USB-C variant is a little behind on shipping as Amazon shows it may be 1-2 months to ship. However, the Lightning one is currently available to ship with normal ship times.
