I am known for having strange humor at times, but ChatGPT completely took first place this round. If you haven’t heard of the advanced AI chatbot created by OpenAI, it would be surprising–and it will be hard not to have heard of it within the next few months as so many companies seek to integrate it into their software/services. It’s an incredibly intelligent AI that may likely be an actual first-generation Jarvis that anyone can use.
However, as advanced as it gets, today is all about simply having a good laugh. In fact, I couldn’t stop laughing after readying its response (myself). Last December I asked it to write me an odd short story with a random description I came up with. It crafted the answer in seconds and it was nothing but gold. Since then, we have mostly used it for serious inquiries and discussions to test how deep it really goes.
Until today, at least, when once again I asked it to create a short story. I tried to be as abstract as possible with my description and its response gave me a good laugh. At first, I thought it was just me. Maybe deep down, I have a grade-school-level humor that may not be shared by others. However, then I shared its response with some of my colleagues and the result was the same. I think we have a winner!
The request I made to ChatGPT is as follows: “Write me a short story about a dyslexic pigeon that is filled with shenanigans that are meant to bamboozle strangers. Shenanigans that lead to some pretty good brouhaha moments. Meanwhile, he suffers from an irresistible urge to collect random gubbins while he fartleks and to awkwardly stare at customers outside of Starbucks locations to bumfuzzle them as they try to enjoy their caffeine addictions. He also has a secret obsession with BTS, but only when he is on the toilet.”
Now that was a bit more complicated than my last request (and the last one was pretty all over the place). I made sure to come up with some strange words and really get abstract with my topics. However, this didn’t hold ChatGPT back at all. Within seconds it started writing a very detailed and wordy story that delivered everything I had hoped for and so much more. I’d even say it had a realistic sense of humor.
Its response is as follows:
Once upon a time, there was a dyslexic pigeon named Pip who lived in the bustling city of New York. Pip was different from the other pigeons. He had trouble reading and spelling words, and often mixed up his letters. But that didn’t stop him from having a good time.
Pip loved to play pranks on strangers, and he was quite good at it. He would swoop down and steal hats from people’s heads, only to drop them a few feet away. He would also pretend to be injured and wait for someone to come to his rescue, only to fly away at the last second. Pip’s shenanigans always left people confused and amused.
But Pip had another quirk. He had an irresistible urge to collect random gubbins while he was flying. He would swoop down and pick up anything that caught his eye, from shiny coins to discarded chewing gum. His collection was the envy of all the other pigeons in the park.
Pip also had a strange habit of awkwardly staring at customers outside of Starbucks locations. He would perch on a nearby tree and stare at them with his head tilted to one side. This often bumfuzzled the customers, who were just trying to enjoy their caffeine addictions in peace.
But Pip had a secret obsession. He loved to listen to BTS while he was on the toilet. He would play their music on his phone and sing along at the top of his lungs. It was his guilty pleasure, and he made sure to keep it a secret from the other pigeons.
One day, Pip’s shenanigans went too far. He swooped down and stole a hotdog from a street vendor, only to drop it on the head of a passing tourist. The tourist was not amused and chased Pip through the park. Pip tried to escape, but he was too busy fartleking and collecting gubbins to fly straight. He crashed into a tree, sending his collection flying in all directions.
As he picked up his gubbins, Pip realized that his pranks had consequences. He felt guilty for causing the tourist to have a bad day, and he knew he needed to change his ways. He decided to stop his shenanigans and focus on being a better pigeon.
But he couldn’t resist one last prank. He flew to a nearby Starbucks and perched on the window sill. He stared at the customers with his head tilted to one side, and just when they thought they had figured him out, he broke out into a dance to BTS’s latest hit. The customers were confused and amused, and Pip knew he had found a new way to have fun without causing harm.
From that day on, Pip spent his days collecting gubbins and listening to BTS on the toilet. But he also made sure to spread joy and laughter wherever he went, without resorting to his old shenanigans. And he lived happily ever after, knowing that he had found a balance between his mischievous nature and his kind heart.
Now, is it enough to tear you up with laughter? Not at all. For me, it was the fact that an AI took a request that was already all over the place and far out there, and took it to a whole new level. Keeping the same idea and voice, and making it better. So, here’s to Pip! He does sound like a fun pigeon indeed.
I do hope that added to your day somehow. Even in the smallest of ways. Another amazing example of how incredible this AI technology is (in many ways, kind of scary).
So what are your thoughts on technologies like ChatGPT? Is this the next wave in technology that is going to change everything? So far it has made huge leaps and bounds in the evolution of multiple industries as is and it has just barely made it past release. What fun things have you gotten it to answer (keep it PG13)?
