There are a number of companies trying to bring you the “ultimate (virtual) keyboard”, and so far, Swype has been one of the most popular. However, here comes another company yet again who promises to provide a keyboard that tops that.
It’s called JustType and it’s currently in the crowd-funding stages, so there is no downloading it yet–but if they meet their goal, it will be hitting iOS devices everywhere. What makes this keyboard different, is that it learns from your personal typing habits (pattern). As you type, it monitors the area of the screen your fingers most commonly tap to achieve each character. As it learns, the letters begin to warp their shape to better compensate for this pattern. By doing this, they hope to eliminate the chance of errors (mistypes) due to coming too close to the neighboring letter.
At the moment, it will only be available for iOS, but they do have plans to work on an Android port. They mention that the original prototype was created for Android, so they probably aren’t too far away if are successful with the iOS version.
Will it live up to it’s dream? I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens. It will be interesting if they manage to somehow port it over to Windows Phone users as well to cover the entire triforce of mobile operating systems.
For more information, you can find them on Kickstarter here.
